Moodboard inspiration for the Byron shirt

Lord Byron

The Byron shirt in the Heritage Collection was inspired by this notable visitor and resident to the city. In 1816, Venice was a place of refuge for Lord Byron from a past life of debt and scandalous intrigues which he gladly left behind in London. However, it was not long before Lord Byron found himself again in the midst of new love and renewed affairs. After all, Venice is a well-known seductress, especially to those seeking opportunities. Often depicted with stiff white collar and cuffed shirts, I imagined Lord Byron arriving in the midst of winter in Venice, needing the protections from the windy cold weather which sweeps in from the Balkans. His attire is still reminiscing Georgian London gentlemen’ clubs and erudite society. He enters St Mark’s Square under the gaze of the protective lion. Walking in beauty, dressed for nights to remember and then forget.
